14@DIIS'2021 Training of cognitive functions with the use of VR- attention and working memory

project type: reasarch

edition: 2021

number of students in project 1 - 10

manager: -

The project aims to create a package of VR applications/games that will test the attention and working memory in patients with cognitive impairment. Applications should contain tasks and instructions in Polish, increasing difficulty levels, and data on the speed, correctness, and response time of tasks should be transferred and stored in the cloud. The duration of such a game should not exceed 30 seconds.
For use: VR goggles, controllers,
Examples of applications:

  • The application displays the figures one by one, the player's task is to mark whether the currently displayed figure is identical to the previous one; response time is measured, correctness; increasing difficulty levels - more and more figures, more and more complex figures/pictures / shapes

  • The application displays a sequence of different images and the name of the category, the user must select the images that correspond to the category; measured reaction time, correctness - increasing difficulty levels - more and more pictures, more detailed.

The above applications are examples that do not have to coincide with the final design. The purpose of presenting them is to introduce the type of application. It is a project involving a multidisciplinary team, so it is an opportunity to gain and develop your experience in creating VR applications and work in such a team. Also, the team/person carrying out the project has a chance for longer scientific and professional work with the team of professor Paweł Winklewski of the Department of Human Physiology of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Medical University of Gdańsk.
